We have some exciting news that we're anxious to share with the extended May family.
Last Friday, the May team was acquired by PixelFish, a local tech startup. The opportunity for our entire team to move in-house starting October 1, 2011 is a huge blessing for us individually, and as a company. We are excited to compliment their team and to work in an agile startup culture with some really smart and tech savvy people.
It was a difficult decision − because it means saying goodbye to our clients. We truly appreciate the loyalty and support we've received from all of you over the years.
We have just about a month to wrap all our current client work and tie up any loose ends. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have about the transition. We want to make it as smooth as possible for everyone.
Thanks again for all your support!
May is a dedicated team of talent that's always available to give your project attention when needed. There are a lot of talented designers out there, and generally a freelancer's rate is going to be less than our blended agency rate. But a freelancer's schedule is also more rigid and their skillset is limited. We're all about flexibility and working on your terms. Not to mention our design speaks for itself; you get what you pay for.
We have 6 dedicated team members, including the owner/art director, two lead designers, two developers, and a client director to manage project and client communication. We also have an extensive network of talented independent contractors, so if you need something that's not our specialty, we'll call in the reinforcements.
We love to partner with companies that are looking for long term relationships. We love startups and working with savvy entrepreneurs who get the dynamics of emerging internet technologies and new media. And we especially love working for companies that are creating amazing products that we believe in. Our favorite thing to do is not just to design, but to help companies succeed.
The short answer is… no. We have a dedicated team of talented people and overhead expenses, and can not afford to work without compensation. But we do offer super flexible payment options and discounted rates for longer term retainer agreements, so reach out and start the conversation and we'll see if we're the right fit for you.
Every project and working relationship is different. Generally speaking, our blended hourly rate is $150/hr. Pricing flexes with longer working relationships and ongoing retainer agreements. Even with a modest budget, a monthly retainer agreement will get you the most bang for your buck. If you're a first time client or only need one project, we strongly encourage you to be very upfront about your budget from the get go; we'll let you know how much we can provide within your means. We can be quite accommodating.
Absolutely. We understand some clients have in-house developers and we're happy to deliver prepped, layered .psd files and style guides. We can also take your current website and make revisions and adjustments to it as needed. Just let us know what you need, we're super flexible :)
The average website takes about 1 week for planning, 2 weeks for design, and 3 weeks for development, content population, QA, and launch. This is all dependent on the project scope and required functionality. As a small, flexible team, one of our strengths is the ability to expedite site launches. If you need something fast, let us know, there's a good chance we can deliver in your timeframe.
Print projects are faster and can go anywhere from days to weeks. Depends on the project scale and deliverables.
We accept checks, cash, PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, rolls of silver dollars, you name it. We always require partial down payment upon project onset for projects. All invoices are Net 15 unless a special arrangement is discussed.
We work really hard during our normal business hours (8:00am to 5:00pm PST, Monday thru Friday) so that we can unwind and enjoy time with our families each night. If you contact us about a project outside of regular hours, we can not guarantee we'll be available to respond until the next business morning. Of course if there's an emergency, we'll do our best to jump on it immediately.
